The most powerful way for Westford voters to directly impact how the Town runs itself and how it spends its money is to attend Town Meeting. And the best way to get the most out of Town Meeting is to attend the League of Women Voters of Westford’s Annual Town Meeting Preview on Thursday, June 2, being held virtually at 7:00 p.m.

Town Meeting is the legislative branch of Westford’s government, and all registered voters may attend, speak, and vote at the next Town Meeting on Saturday, June 11. The meeting – being held on Westford Academy Trustees Field, 30 Patten Road – begins at 9:00 a.m. The rain date is Sunday, June 12, at 9:00 a.m.
Town Meeting has two primary responsibilities:
Establish an annual budget by voting to appropriate money for all town departments; and
Vote on the town’s local statutes, the bylaws.
At this year’s Town Meeting, voters will discuss and decide on 19 articles. During the League’s preview, town officials will go over each item – or article — on the warrant, giving residents a chance to familiarize themselves before attending Town Meeting on June 11. Issues on this year’s warrant include using electronic vote tabulators at Town Meetings, establishing lower speed limits for some town roads, and authorizing a new HVAC system for the Cameron Senior Center. Questions can be submitted during the preview via chat. The preview will be recorded and made available online.
