While “cord-cutting” (eliminating Comcast or Verizon television – “cable” – services from utility bills) has recently slowed, the short-fall from franchise revenues over the past five years is over $100,000. Efforts to raise at least $20,000 each year to maintain free community media services include a variety of activities.

“Annual fundraising efforts at WestfordCAT are now part of doing business, but more than soliciting donations, we want to host activities that are a win-win-win. The community benefits as well as the individual supporters as well as WCAT.” said Kristi Bates, president of WestfordCAT’s Board of Directors.

Online Auctions: The current GalaBid Auction ends on Friday, May 6 at 8pm. The Arts & Activities Auction features many gift cards to win including: Kimball Farm activities passes, bike tune-up certificate from CK Bikes in Littleton, Tower Hill Botanical Garden passes for four and two passes to the Institute for Contemporary Art in Boston and lots of framed art from prints to paintings and more.

Other Ways to Support Free Non-profit News and Media include:

E-WASTE Collection: Electronics, metals and battery collections are ongoing – if it has a cord or is made of metal you can drop it off during business hours with a donation.

Battery Collection:  Removing these “heavy-weights” from residential trash can make an impact on the cost of town trash removal. A bin is available at the front door of WCAT to drop-off your alkaline batteries; a small donation is suggested.

Dining-for-a-Cause: Successful events were held at Thai on the Fly and Evviva Cucina earlier this year. On June 7, Paul’s Diner will make a donation to WCAT based on the days proceeds. Paul’s Diner is located at 6 Carlisle Road and is open from 7am – 1:30pm that day.

Donations:  Local journalism is vital to our communities. As other publications shift focus toward regional journalism, WestfordCAT continues to provide high-quality hyperlocal reporting to our town, free for everyone to read. So — we have a small favor to ask. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps us sustain our journalism and keep our community informed. Please consider supporting WestfordCAT for as little as $1 on PayPal.
